Parody by JanineL (2021)

Lifeline

For this project I worked with Lucy to create a parody of Vance Joy’s “Riptide” titled “Lifeline”. We chose the song “Riptide” because it originally has strangely sad and hopeful lyrics and the music is very emotional. We changed the lyrics to be about how stressful school is, but how music is our lifeline, keeping us sane. We were inspired by the feelings that music gives us and we tried to show through the lyrics how listening to music can help the stress go away, even if it’s just temporarily. This was a good parody because it was funny but also had meaning. I am most proud of our singing and audio editing. I had never fully sung confidently around other people before this, but it was really fun having friends in the studio singing together. I am also proud of my audio editing because I got the audio to line up with the original track and then made the original lyrics less loud. It was strange but interesting learning how to edit audio because I had never been exposed to audio editing before, only photo and video editing. I think audio brings a different element to one’s artwork since you can both hear and see something the artist created.
